Using Surveys to Create Audiences
Audiences can be created based on survey responses within AIQ. This involves leveraging AIQ's audience segmentation and data management tools to create targeted groups based on the answers provided in surveys.
First, ensure that you have a mechanism to collect survey responses from your customers. This can be done through:
- AIQ In-app surveys
- Email surveys
- Web-based survey forms
Make sure the survey data is integrated with AIQ. You can do this via:
- Manual Upload: Upload survey responses for personas using data in CSV format
- In-app Responses: Use AIQ's API to automatically send survey data.
- API Integration: Use AIQ's API to automatically send survey data.
Ensure that the survey responses are properly mapped to the corresponding customer profiles in AIQ. This typically involves linking survey responses to the the customer's persona ID, email, or phone number.
AIQ, will automatically create custom attributes for the survey responses. For instance, if your survey asks about product preferences, you can create custom attributes like "Product Preference: Baked Goods," "Product Preference: Apparel," etc.
Use the custom attributes to create audience segments. Hereโs how:
- Navigate to the Audience Builder:
- Go to the AIQ dashboard and select "Audiences" from the main menu.
- Create a New Audience:
- Click on "Create New Audience."
- Define Audience Criteria:
- In the audience builder, define the criteria based on your survey responses. For example:
- Attribute-based Segmentation:
- Select the custom attribute created for the survey response (e.g., "Product Preference: Electronics")
- Set the condition (e.g., equals "True", "False", etc.)
- Combine Multiple Criteria:
- If you want to combine multiple survey responses, you can add multiple criteria. For example:
- Customers who prefer Electronics AND have a high satisfaction rating.
- Use Filters and Logic:
- Utilize AIQ's filtering options to fine-tune your audience. You can use AND/OR logic to combine different criteria.
- Example:
- Customers who prefer Electronics OR Apparel.
- Customers who prefer Electronics AND have purchased within the last 30 days.
- Save and Name Your Audience:
- Once you have defined the criteria, save your audience segment with a descriptive name (e.g., "Electronics Enthusiasts").
After creating the audience based on survey responses, you can leverage these segments for targeted marketing campaigns:
- Marketing Personalization and TargetingSend personalized messaging to specific their audience segments.
- Loyalty ProgramsOffer tailored rewards to different segments.
- Personalized RecommendationsProvide product recommendations based on survey preferences.
Let's say you conducted a survey to understand customer preferences for new product lines. One of the questions is about the preferred type of product (Electronics, Apparel, Home Goods). Hereโs how you can build an audience based on these responses:
- Product Preference: Electronics
- Product Preference: Apparel

- Collect and Integrate the Survey Data:
- Collect survey responses and integrate them with AIQ, mapping responses to customer personas when uploading or importing data not collected directly via AIQ Survey & Review tools.
- Define Audience & Create Audience Segments:
- Navigate to Audiences, create a new audience, and define criteria based on the custom attributes.
- Electronics Enthusiasts:
- Product Preference: Electronics equals "True"
- Apparel Haters:
- Product Preference: Apparel equals "False"
- Use Segments in Campaigns/Discounts/more:
- Use the Audience(s) to send targeted marketing emails, promotions, or personalized recommendations.
