Using Surveys to Create Audiences

6min

Audiences can be created based on survey responses within AIQ. This involves leveraging AIQ's audience segmentation and data management tools to create targeted groups based on the answers provided in surveys.

1. Collect Survey Responses

First, you'll want to send your surveys out to your customers and collect responses. There are many ways you can do this:

  • Putting an AIQ survey on your website or ecom menu via Popup Forms
  • Putting a survey link in a campaign
  • Putting a survey QR code in-store

Note: You'll want your survey to collect PII so it can be associated with a Persona to create audiences. Surveys sent within campaigns will know which Persona to associate it with. If you have links elsewhere, users will be prompted to enter phone and/or email.

2. Integrate Survey Data with AIQ

  • As mentioned above, if you've used our survey tool, we can associate surveys with the Personas in our system. No action needed.
  • Or you can manually upload data into our platform:
    • CSV Upload: Upload survey responses for personas.
    • API Integration: Use AIQ's API to automatically send survey data.

Manual survey data: Ensure that the survey responses are properly mapped to the corresponding customer profiles in AIQ. This typically involves linking survey responses to the customer's persona ID, email, or phone number.

3. Create an Audience with the Custom Attributes

AIQ will automatically create custom attributes for the survey responses.

  • For example, if your survey asks about product preferences, you will see custom attributes for "Product Preference: Baked Goods," "Product Preference: Apparel," etc.

Then, use those custom attributes to create audience segments:

  1. Navigate to Customers > Audiences
  2. Create a New Audience
  3. Define Audience Criteria:
    • In the audience builder, define the criteria based on your survey responses. For example, Attribute-based Segmentation:
      • Select the custom attribute created for the survey response (e.g., "Product Preference: Electronics")
      • Set the condition (e.g., equals "True", "False", etc.)
  4. Combine Multiple Criteria:
    • If you want to combine multiple survey responses, you can add multiple criteria. For example:
      • Customers who prefer Electronics AND have a high satisfaction rating.
  5. Use Filters and Logic:
    • Utilize AIQ's filtering options to fine-tune your audience. You can use AND/OR logic to combine different criteria.
      • Example:
        • Customers who prefer Electronics OR Apparel.
        • Customers who prefer Electronics AND have purchased within the last 30 days.
  6. Save and Name Your Audience:
    • Once you have defined the criteria, save your audience segment with a descriptive name (e.g., "Electronics Enthusiasts").

4. Create Targeted Campaigns from that Audience

After creating your audience from the survey responses, you can leverage these segments for targeted marketing campaigns. Examples:

  • Marketing Personalization and Targeting
Send personalized messaging to specific audience segments.
  • Loyalty Programs
Offer tailored rewards to different segments.
  • Personalized Recommendations
Provide product recommendations based on survey preferences.
