PIN Codes: 3 use cases

AIQ uses PIN codes to verify the identity of your customers and to ensure messaging security. PIN Codes can be used in the following ways:

  • Verify PII entered by a customer when creating their wallet account
  • Optional customer identity verification for in-store and Ecomm rewards redemptions through supported integration partners
  • Optional verification to ensure that regulated industry text campaigns and the included landing page are not being opened or viewed before it is received by the opted-in customer

Texting Settings (landing page access)

AIQ uses PINs primarily as an additional security measure to ensure the deliverability and integrity of text message campaigns. This is especially useful for messages sent to large audiences or when experiencing filtration issues with carriers.

  • This feature is beneficial for regulated industries sending text message campaigns to large opted-in audiences and can help those facing deliverability issues with standard methods.
    • Carrier Filtration Prevention: PIN codes add an extra layer of protection against carrier filtration, ensuring that the message is delivered without being flagged as spam.
    • Human Auditor Protection: They prevent human auditors from accessing and flagging your message's landing page or domain.
  • PIN codes are not required to send text campaigns, but we do recommend them for the reasons cited above.

For more, see PIN Codes for Texting.

Wallet Access (user identification)

AIQ uses PIN codes to verify the identity of customers who are signing into their wallet by sending them a verification text and/or email.

PIN codes should be expected for access when customers first sign into the wallet and when re-verification is required (new device, new browser or cleared cache, etc.).

Loyalty Settings (integration redemption options)

By requiring text and/or email codes for loyalty redemptions through 3rd party Integrations, AIQ will verify the current customer and their active rewards.

Using PIN codes provides an additional layer of security and control, ensuring that discounts are not misused or redeemed without proper verification. This can be particularly useful in high-traffic retail environments where quick verification is necessary.

  • Customer Verification: When customers do not have their AIQ wallet on their phone, but their phone is available a PIN can be texted to the customer to verify their identity and shown to the sales staff who can then enter the PIN to access the customer’s wallet and redeem points.
  • Discount Redemption: Customers can redeem discounts without having their phones if the store has enabled the master PIN or show PIN in wallets settings. Staff members can enter the master PIN or pull up the customer's wallet to enter the PIN into the integration in order to select the available discount, which can then be redeemed in-store.

  • Show pin code in wallets: PIN codes will be available in the customer wallet so the customer or staff can access the code for supported integration redemptions
  • Send pins to email if known: if enabled, customers also receive their PIN codes via email messages
  • Create master pin code for your org: A master PIN code can be enabled and set to enable staff to access customer discounts through a supported integration without unique PIN codes required for each customer
  • disable customer redemption pin codes: Blocks customers from being able to generate PIN codes for verification. This will not allow customers to show PIN codes in store or use PIN codes to access integration supported discounts via Ecomm
